Dignitaries have attended a flag raising ceremony and a reception at the Convention Centre in Wanchai to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. Acting Chief Executive Wong Yan-lung said although China has faced numerous challenges over the past six decades, the country has made many accomplishments that have captured the world’s attention. He highlighted in particular last year’s Beijing Olympics, and the manned Shenzhou Seven space mission. He also spoke of the important role Hong Kong has played in the opening up of the country.
